EMO hair is derived from EMO rock music which was a 1980s punk rock style, aka emotional hardcore. The hair is usually either all coal black, or with sections somewhat similar to a raccoon tail. It is very spiky, and must have Japanese anime influences. It is strictly youth. It wouldn't look good on anyone over 24 years of age. Everything is basically pointed, the ends of the hair and the most suitable faces (like those pointy-faced kids in Japanese cartoons).

Although it can take many forms, usually short for males, and bulbous at the top for emo girls, with a peek-a-boo styling where one eye is covered, it is usually long, cheek-hugging and very pointy.

There is likely some influence from American gothic-style actress Cassandra Peterson, whose character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, was a dark, humorous and sexy hostess of the 1980s.

  

Here we have our special formula for creating a basic EMO hairstyle. (1) start with a cute little girl (Annie Oglypuss) who has yet to reach the age of 24; (2) take a basic octopus and a basic barrel filled with black tar and insert former into latter; (3) remove and lightly shake octopus then (4) place onto head of cute little girl. (5) Pull octopus legs tightly downwards, weaving into natural hair. (6) Shape and adjust stretched octopus, covering one eye, and leave tentacles dangling in points.

 

Boy's EMO hairstyles are the same but shorter. To both males and females you can add heavy eye make-up, black of course. In the girls there is a lot of cleavage display, but being youthful, not much cleavage to actually display.
