Just because it is strange, the freaky hairstyle can still be very
attractive, in fact, downright cute. The big advantage is that it will
cause the boys to do a doubletake and and tripletake. There is nothing
more delectable than seeing, out of the corner of your eye, the groups
stop and gasp and flush with admiration. Try not to notice. That is
your big challenge.
You have to be careful how you engineer it, though. A little color is
all right, and even some additions are acceptable. Too strong and your
freakiness will make you a candidate for inclusion in a circus. You just
have to decide who you want looking at it (how conservative is your
audience), and how far you want to go. You know of punk rockers with
their Mohawk cuts turned freaky into ugly, especially with all the facial
jewelry and head shaving. It is all a matter of degrees, so work your
way into it gradually. There is a very fine line between freaky and
freakish.
Take a look at Annie. She gave herself a hot red then fluffed it out at
the sides. It is still feminine, while maintaining that sense of devilishness.
A lot of the effect has to do with the associated facial structure and
the makeup and jewelry. Study the examples and decide what's best for
you. Don't plan on duplicating anything, but engineering your plan first
on paper. The real secret, though, is your hairdresser. The old school
may not be into your conception, but if you try to do-it-yourself, you
could get into a lot of trouble. You may be spending the next few weeks
in damage control.
The examples we have for you on these pages are to show a range from
moderate to extreme. Any changes you plan on making should be done
gradually. Enjoy.
