Natural Medicine
The natural medicine has become the new medicine since it addresses
issues that are no longer reliably dealt with by modern western and
eastern medicine. We cannot simply treat the symptoms, because the
symptoms are an outgrowth of much deeper problems. Our modern world has
subjected our bodies to an accumulation of toxic substances, not the
least among them, heavy metals. Examples of this are: arsenic from many
sources, including smoking, lead from the absorption of paints and
solder, mercury from dental fillings, aluminum from tin cans and
antacids, and numerous other toxic materials that are affecting our
lives and reducing our length of stay on this earth. Within this toxic
environment, we suffer many ailments, from eczema to cancer. Whenever,
the physician says, "we do not know the cause" then it is a good idea to
look to far deeper sources for our ailments.
The compound 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is made from
tryptophan, an essential amino acid that must come from from
foods, mostly proteins, and which is converted into serotonin, a
vital neurotransmitter or chemical messenger. By increasing the intake
of 5-HTP the body produces more serotonin in the brain improving
behavior and mood, making the person more relaxed and happier. Low
levels of serotonin result in depression, anxiety, insomnia, and
irritability.

Amino acids are organic compounds containing an amino group (NH2),
a carboxylic acid group (COOH), and any of various side groups. They
link together by peptide bonds to form proteins. Their importance is
their ability to serve as chemical messengers and as intermediates
in metabolism.

Cadmium poisoning can result from ingesting the heavy metal which is
found in solder, tobacco, farm animals (which have been treated
for parasites), and nickel-cadmium batteries. This is why used
batteries must be disposed of properly. In the short
term it is highly toxic; over a long time, it can lead to liver and
kidney damage and even cancer. Treatment ranges from dialysis to oral chelation with DMSA
(dimercaptosuccinic acid).

Green tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis and
contains high levels of the antioxidant polyphenols. Other teas,
produced from the same plant, are processed differently with greatly
reduced levels of the antioxidant. Used for more than 5,000 years, the
popular beverage reduces the risk and spread of cancer, lowers
cholesterol, and protect against hardening of the arties. The positive
effects are offset by the presence of fluoride, aluminum, and caffeine.
The first can fight tooth decay but interfere with the body's natural
bacteria, the second is a toxic metal, and the third is an addictive
stimulant.

HumorTherapy Humor Therapy is the technique of employing
laughter to aid overall healing of the body, with emphasis on curing
life-threatening diseases, when it appears as if all else has failed.
The treatment goes hand-in-hand with others therapies including the use
of pets for shut-ins, people with disabilities, and even prisoners, by
giving them time to pet and care for an animal, contributing to overall
physical, mental, social, and recuperative needs.

Kidney stones are solid material (mostly calcium) in the tubes of
the kidney that can obstruct the flow of urine, and cause great pain if
they reach the ureter. They can be caused by heavy diets of meat,
poultry, and fish. After diagnosis, some stones can pass naturally;
otherwise, if too large, the stones can be removed by surgery, including
crushing them with shock waves (lithotripsy). Natural treatments
include herbal medicine and homeopathy. General habits to prevent the
condition include: eating less meat, fish, and poultry, eating broccoli,
chocolate, and spinach, and consuming tea or beer. A doctor must
evaluate the exact condition and exact cause, before prescribing the
correct treatment and preventative habits.

LightTherapy
Light therapy is the administering of bright light to correct
mood and sleep disorders, with the logic being to fix the body's
internal clock. Bright light and fresh air have always been a part of
healing. More recently, phototherapy treats SAD (seasonal
affective disorder), a depression in northern latitudes caused by
reduced daylight. It can also treat jet lag and insomnia, but only if
the underlying major causes are also being attended to. It is fast,
natural, and safe (the only possible danger being excessive UV exposure)
and can be administered at home using portable full-spectrum light
boxes.

Melatonin
Melatonin is the body's hormone produced in the pineal gland
which regulates sleep. Darkness stimulates the production of more
melatonin. Health food stores stock a supplement in capsule form. With
the advent of unnatural lighting and an increase in stress, more people
have experienced disturbed sleep. The supplement helps a person get to
sleep faster and remain asleep longer. Studies have suggested that
people live longer and overall health is improved. Sleeping in total
darkness and silence naturally increases the production of the hormone.
Taking supplements too strong or too many times can disrupt normal
melatonin levels. Self-medication is not always advisable without
consulting a doctor, especially in the case of patients who are on other
hormone treatments, or who are taking antidepressants such as
Prozac which is a serotonin inhibitor.

Royal Jelly is a nutritious secretion of worker bees, the food
for young larvae, among them the one that will become a queen. A thick
and creamy liquid, it has been called the milk of bees. It aids the
queen-to-be to become larger and heavier and able to produce massive
quantities of eggs. It is rich in amino acids, essential fatty acids,
minerals, vitamins, and other substances not yet identified. It is
alleged to increase vigor, retard aging, strengthen the immune system,
and speed healing. It is mostly safe, with few side effects, leading
occasionally to heart palpitations, anxiety, and insomnia.

YeastInfection
Yeast is a fungus of the genus Candida, generally
requiring a disruption in the body's natural protective mechanisms to
commence. Breaks in the skin or delivery of medications and nutrients
through IV catheters can often provide entryways. Overuse of
antibacterial medications has lowered the numbers of good body bacteria,
allowing yeasts to establish large colonies in the intestines. As the
body's immune system declines, the yeast infection strengthens.
Antifungal drugs can be effective, but if the intestinal environment has
been invaded by heavy metals, the yeast has a greater chance of
surviving and dominating.

We know everyone likes to play games. Cheat yourself out of having fun and you will have to face the music. Lyrics of songs have promoted not taking life so seriously all the time, but how do we strike the perfect balance? Is there a pattern of behavior that can provide the map. Quest is on for the perfect behavior, but most of what we do is random, or inspired by the stimuli that presently confront us. It is like one great cheat. Codes have been devised, but packaged in stern and dour religious habits. A lot of that is based on the fear that we must follow the city maps of our ancestors in order to arrive at a more universal world map. We busy ourselves in our tiny worlds, completing first our job search, then busying ourself with the food network and round and brown circuitous route that organizes our lives simple and clean. The modern devices of science fair projects that have replaced the simple machines of our ancestors have taken us away from a simple plan of existence and left us in a brand new world. We have never passed this way before, and already we are beginning to see that the house is in disorder. Pieces of science projects litter the streets adding to our travel obsession as they intermix with auto parts. The house plans for our planet earth have fallen into a jumble. Our environment is fouled and overheating. We may not be able to save ourselves with new lesson plans and another round of science fair ideas. Technology just doesn't do it. The distance between haves and have-nots is getting greater by the minute. We are playing king of the castle in our attempt to conquer the food pyramid. Who do we look to? Certainly not to big-jawed gym class heroes, they aren't bright enough for the flash games. The funny photos we see of our world are beginning to include us. The anime babes of the eros guide are merely illusions. We don't even know how seriously ill is our planet nor can we conceive of how reduced are our hopes to survive the great evolutionary cut. We are on the brink of extinction. It is closer than you think. Our bodies are riddle with heavy metals. Health food fads steam roller through our minds. How do we eat better, when the corporate commercial world is so powerful at selling us what it has decided is good for us. We do not think for ourselves any more. We have come to this.
