Merrell Shoes Aren't Just for Hiking Anymore

by Blair Stephens

I love the original pair of Merrell shoes I picked up. They were that slip on style that was so incredibly popular a few years ago. They were warm, supportive, had excellent traction and the style, while not trendy or even particularly girlie, and were classic and good looking. A year later I ended up picking up another pair of Merrells - this time they were lace up and had a sleek athletic look. They had also incorporated some really different textures and materials into the shoe and I was suddenly intrigued by this brand I had pigeon holed a year before. Sure, I loved my Merrell's, but while my feet said "Yay!" my stylist said "Nay!" and the brand had been firmly relegated to hiking and outdoor activities.

Well, it turns out those lace up sneakers with the funky material were really a harbinger of things to come from Merrell who has expanded their view of what outdoor means to people everywhere. While they stay true to their roots, providing high quality and durable footwear for hiking, walking, trekking and more, they now also serve the outdoor urbanite and are offering shoes that are practical while incorporating a sleeker, more modern look.

Merrell shoes are really about encouraging you to get outside, so whether you are walking around down town or hiking across the countryside, they want to provide footwear that rises to the occasion. You'll find athletic shoes, boots, casual shoes and even feminine sandals in the Merrell lineup. They offer excellent shoe options for men, women and kids that really extend beyond the traditional offerings of outdoor shoes.

The men's side also offers more flexible offering than you might think. Yes, you'll find the traditional sturdy and chunky Merrell hiking boot, but you can also find sleek and urban athletic shoe styles. Flip flops, athletic sandals and even more traditional oxford style shoes are all available through Merrell and you'll get all the value, comfort and durability you've come to expect.

What's great about the sleek and trendier offerings from Merrell shoes is that they still incorporate all the great advanced technology for which Merrell has always been famous. You'll find microfiber wrapped foot beds, injection molded arch shanks, compression molded EVA foot frames, air cushioning and sticky rubber soles even in the most elegant and minimal flip flops.

This commitment to technology is another company value that really sets Merrell apart. If you invest in a pair of Merrell shoes or sandals they will last several seasons or years, no matter how you treat them. To this end although they bring in modern elements and styling, there is a classic look to Merrell's that is just timeless enough to withstand their durability.

The only downside to Merrell shoes is the price tag. Because Merrell's are made with quality in mind and because this company really stands behind its shoes, they know they charge you what they're worth. But, that downside just means you should commit to quality footwear which will mean fewer pairs of shoe with a higher level of overall quality.

Either way, Merrell has really stepped up to the plate to offer you a varied selection of shoes that really suit your style and needs.
